It is quite apparent that Bazooka Joe comics emphasize the traditional social roles of men, women, and teenagers. One would assume that the comics would also present traditional social values and cultural icons. Yet, clearly in this comic we see that baseball, America's traditional, yet fading pasttime, is referred to, as being the sport of camera-happy pansies while basketball, football, and hockey are much more intense. Note also the emphasis of commercialism, as Bazooka Joe makes a rather poor segue into an advertisement for a product which the consumer must already have purchased since they are reading the enclosed comic.
