The message of this comic is that in order to be desired by the opposite sex, namely females, one has to be deemed attractive by the general society, be wealthy, or be famous. The impact of this statement is such, Mort, an intelligent, diligent, and sanitary boy genius, is unattractive because he doesn't possess qualities that are due mainly to luck and genetics. Also consider the roles that the each gender takes in this comic. Mort, a male, is studying the stars by an unprecedented method which employs broad daylight, and Ursula, a female, is skipping rope a purely physical activity which is not as intellectual as astronomy. The fact that women are portrayd as being inable to study the sky indicates another stereotype.
