History of Ardania

The Age of Tranquility and the Human Arrival

Ours is a beautiful world called Ardania. A world teeming with life, where the elder race - the elves - led a benevolent confederacy of states through their kingdom of Xendarra (heart of the world). The other members of the confederacy were the dwarven kingdoms of Deepmir and the halfling Free Cities. The confederacy was a loose union of primarily consultative and advisory nature, and made certain that the general peace was preserved through exchange of information and timely intervention of benevolent interested parties.

The elder race, the elves, almost exclusively occupied their sylvan paradise of Xendarra - the fertile and picturesque eastern continent of Ardania. There, they built exquisite beautiful vast cities of white marble spires, decorated them with gems, gold, and green plant life, and devoted themselves to a relatively decadent gentle life of beauty, culture, magic, and music.

The dwarves had taken a different approach in the mountains and depths of central part of the northern continent - they opted to put their gold and gems into their coffers as opposed to their buildings and household items, and their time and efforts into mining, building, and crafting. In the hot nethers of the underworld, they dug and masoned their kingdoms from solid rock, establishing vast underground cities, formidable mountain fortresses, elaborate networks of mines and caverns, and strong communities based on powerful family ties, strong warrior and builder spirits, and devoted and utterly loyal clergy. In their wandering in the nethers, the dwarves encountered numerous underground monsters and strange phenomena, which resulted in their almost natural understanding of underground flora, fauna, and geology.

The halflings were a gentle subtle folk, more willing to smile than to frown, to negotiate than to fight, and to trade than to take. Their trading skills, wonderlust, and intrepid spirit were unmatched, so they became the best traders of the world. They established independent cities of primarily trading nature mostly clustered in their native hilly planes - the Liskarrii. Naturally, they would also have numerous outposts close to the azrac trading routes to and from Xendarra, to and from the dwarven kingdoms, and to and from the Sssla marshes of the lizardmen Dominion. Once established by clever merchants, these outposts grew in bigger, well-fortified burgs and took up on much artisanship and agriculture to meet the growing demand of cloth, household items, innkeeping, husbandry, and food production.
