Greetings, Warlords! None of you people showed up today, so I did some number-pushing instead. My humble conclusion is that we are in for a big treat if we start playing on normal maps. A great number of units, which are too lame on big maps would have a very good second chance. War engines, which are too slow or weak to be cost-effective on deep maps would suddenly become as attractive as they should be. The transportation problems of many armies would be solved with one swift stroke. Objectives would become reachable for a change. Artillery would not be nearly as cool and self-sustaining as it is now, just the way it should have been in the first place. Battles in general would go for one or two turns less, so the gaming would be much more manageable and affordable time-wise. This will allow us a quick game at 2,000 pts and a standard one at 3,000 pts. All this will invalidate many old strategies and give us the chance to develop many new ones. In my opinion, switching to normal maps will normalize the status of many armies from "really hosed" or "way cool", and hopefully will prevent the predestined match-ups from hell. It will also undermine or eliminate many abberations, which appeared exactly as a result of the deep-maps distortion. It is only fair to admit that on normal maps, the marines may actually be stronger due to their modest range and low infantry speed, although I think in general it is too early for reliable predictions. On the upside, I can start playing Eldar again because all those 15cm ranges are no longer incredibly lame, so the Eldar will look very different hopefully. I am determined to play on standard maps from now on unless there is too strong objection (grounds?) from the opponent. Four buildings at the edges would be very easy to mark the boundaries when we check from the sides. Emil
