What is the Joy Butt Club?
On a fun day in 2008 I was hanging out with Jen and her mom Jony. We were
talking about movies we'd want to star in. Jony said she really
liked the Joy Luck Club, to which I replied, "Yah, but I'm sure the movie you
really wanted to star in was the Joy Butt Club!" That sparked
off a number of hilarious off-color anal jokes... and thus, the JBC was born!
:-)
Nowadays, the Joy Butt Club is about a way of life. It represents being proud of our bodies, flaunting our assets, and most of all: having fun! Our cheeky cheeks can bring joy to the world! (-.-)
What do the chinese symbols on the
butt mean?
Each symbol individually means "joy" or "happiness". When placed together
side
by side they are called "double happiness". That's a common motif for
marriage, and is often found on wedding invitations or other wedding
paraphenelia. And what is more happy than your two butt cheeks nestled
together? They'll never divorce, though I guess sometimes they do part. :-)
How did you make these?
Well, first I consulted with my good friend Carmen who is a garment making
specialist. She helped me narrow down the fabrics (nylon with a dash of
spandex) and the cut (boy shorts, boy legs, or hipsters work best). Then, we
printed out the chinese symbol above and made a stencil from a piece of
plastic. Using a flat stencil brush and some fabric safe paint, we dabbed
the paint through the stencil to make the symbols. The outlines and shadows
were added by hand using fabric markers.
After the paint dries, the magic trick is to seal the paint by using a hot
press. Carmen has a professional press, but one can also use an iron and some
handkerchiefs. Just slightly dampen the handkerchiefs and put them above and
below the symbols. Press the iron straight down for 10 seconds, and voila!
How do I care for my JBC shorts?
Here are some care guidelines:
In the menu below are the first three prototypes. In 2009 I tried a bunch of different color combinations on cotton shorts, as well as experimented with different marking styles. The prototype run was very rough, but I learned a lot.
After the protoypes, two variants clearly stood out:
So, in 2010 we went with the Red Shadow as the first color combination. We also tried them on tan shorts, which was a tossup. The tan shorts blend sexier on the butt, but the symbols themselves stand out less. I'm leaning toward the white short variant.
May your butt always be filled... with joy! :-)
