Howdy all!

This thread will be for summaries of the private portions of character pasts. We'll discuss and refine the pasts in other threads.

Something from Alexander Chronicle's father (or his group) can be found in a side cave along this chase. Maybe Read Ear or Silver Coyote lead the party to it (in the hopes that what ever lives inside the cave kills them).

As Odin 241 adavances he should start getting flashbacks as his old memory unit is malfunctioning. Some later quest could be to restore/clear this malfunctioning part of him.

Most of the other's PCs pasts are somewhat vague to me. I can only get what I pick-up in the podcasts which is spotty at best.

Howdy all!

Actually, in this thread I'm going to describe the pasts in full to you all, so that we can also weave the characters directly into the plot. But unfortunately, the session has been moving along at such a good clip I've been spending all my free time just creating content.

Hmm... perhaps slow and steady is the watchword here. I'll try to get a past a week posted here, in the order of the pasts least exposed via the podcasts. The transparent pasts are:
Odin 241
Nina Garbacelli
Alexander Chronicle
Firefly
Subius
Dead people icon_biggrin.gif

Less obvious are
Troya
Morin
Cosimo
Thjodrann
because they have things that haven't been revealed yet.

When I get back to Boston later this week (in NY atm) I'll start the first past exposition.

PostSubject: Thjodrann: Odin's Wolf    Posted: Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:21 am Reply with quote

Howdy all!

Thjodrann grew up in the Dorelen Isles, which is a Norse-like civilization on a chain of islands in the Bitter Sea. Her family was pious and honored the gods. On a cold and stormy night a beggar came to the door half dead. They let him in, sat him near the fire, fed him a fine meal, and offered him some hot chocolate (there an uncommon drink). He announced that he was a Wolf of Odin and that they had fulfilled his prophecy, which is an indicator that he should become a cleric and choose a Whomper successor.

Odin's Wolves are a militant sect of the church of Odin. They begin as barbarian Whompers, travelling far and wide across the lands, often in disguise and testing the hospitality of those they meet. Each one starts with a fulfilment prophecy which is their sign that they should become full-fledged clerics to Odin. (Thjodrann's prophecy is that she would fight alongside Odin, Gungnir flashing.) Upon becoming a cleric, they receive a prophecy from Odin which they give to another person, thereby perpetuating the flock. This is generally known about Odin's Wolves.

What is not well known is that the Odin's Wolves have a specific mission: to try to find a way to prevent Ragnarok.

Ragnarok is the final battle of the Norse Gods against various foes (mainly the giants led by Loki). Odin once traded one of his eyes for wisdom, while being hung for nine days on the branches of the World Tree Yggdrasil. As a side effect, he also gained precognition and foresaw Ragnarok. He knows that the final battle cannot be prevented by the actions of the gods... but he has also seen a very slim loophole. Apparently a mortal might have a chance of changing events enough to avert the catastrophe, hence he founded the Odin's Wolves.

Ragnarok is presaged by the wounding of Balder the Pure, who is invulnerable to everything except for mistletoe. Loki, after having been imprisoned and tortured under a mountain for ages, escapes and tricks the blind Hod into throwing a spear of mistletoe at Balder. This so infuriates the gods they immediately wage war on Loki, who has already raised the giants to his banner. Everyone dies except Balder, who becomes the All-Father to a new and nobler generation of gods.

Hence, the Odin's Wolves break spears, destroy mistletoe, and cure the blind as a matter of course. (Thjodrann broke Firefly's spears, btw. Isn't it great how this stuff works out in session?) They also focus their efforts specifically on finding something that will neutralize Loki. They don't want to kill him (Loki) for the same reason the gods do not wish to: he is blood-brother to Odin and has saved the entire pantheon from destruction as often as he has mischieviously endangered.

Ideas: Anyhoo, I think this past is a great excuse to have an adventure(s) with a ton of frickin' giants in it. icon_lol.gif Of course, we should also come up with good leads on items that might attract her. I'm also thinking of dropping some hints about the City of the Gods.

Feel free to start up other threads on ideas for Thjodrann's past. Next week, I'll try to post another past in this thread. Thanks!

Wait, did you come up with Thjodrann's prophecy before or after I came up with the idea of Odin 241? That worked out pretty well.
