Class Policies Grading The grade for each experiment is a composite of three scores: 50% experiment write-up, 35% lab notebook (15% prelab, 20% inlab) and 15% lab technique. Lab reports are due in the boxes at the front of Mead at 4:00 pm on the due date unless otherwise specified. Extensions will not be granted without a medical excuse or similarly serious extenuating circumstances. Late reports will be penalized 10% per day late. There will be no penalty for late lab notebooks; however, it is absolutely imperative that you have your prelab and inlab work done on time and signed. You will receive no credit for work that is not signed off by Dr. Raymond or a TA at the appropriate time. Inlab entries must be made in lab except for certain rare circumstances (such as copying your partner's entries for the work done in pairs at the beginning of the ferrocene experiment). You are graded on a curve determined in large part by the general performance of the entire class. Keep in mind that while some TAs will be harsh and others lenient, your overall performance will still be reflected in the curve. You are encouraged to approach the graders if you feel that points have been deducted unfairly. However, be sure that you have a valid argument, and remember that the TA is using the same rubric to grade the rest of the class. |
