Welcome! Greetings from Na Lilinoe, Caltech's Hawaiian Club. Na Lilinoe is Hawaiian for "the fine mist." Our club seeks to bring some of the laid-back attitude and local culture of the islands to Caltech. Everyone is welcome!
News
Caltech community members: Come visit us at the International Student Programs Annual Food Fair (and possibly the Cultural Show). $3 gets you a sampling of food from around the world. (In case you were wondering, we're the only club that's from a place within the United States.) 4-6pm on Friday, April 15, 2005, near Avery (Moore Walk).
Purpose and History
The Caltech Hawaiian Club seeks to bring some of the laid-back attitude and local culture of the Hawaiian islands to its sponsoring institution, the California Institute of Technology. It is completely open to everyone interested in learning about Hawaii and sharing the relaxed, friendly attitude of its people, and serves as a support group for people from Hawaii who may have problems adjusting to the "culture shock" of Caltech life or just want to connect with other people from Hawaii.
Hawaiian Club seems to have been founded around 6 years ago by a guy named Keoni, but nobody knows much more than that. However, we do have a long history of eating and having fun...

The mailing list is walaau@its. (You must be a member to post to this list.)
"Wala`au" is the Hawaiian word for conversation. It differs from the word for "talking" because it has a slightly more informal, casual, and friendly connotation, and members are allowed to use it in such a manner. However, nobody's used it much in the past two years; it's used mainly to announce upcoming events.
We stopped holding dance lessons and other public events in early 2005. Please check mele.com for other opportunities.
