You've been warned. Here we go:
Last year, I joined Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society. There's even a secret slogan, although it isn't anything special.
I also joined Sigma Alpha Xi, a national research society. I'm some sort of Associate Member or something.
I am receiving a Caltech Merit Scholarship during my Senior year, although I'm getting less than I did during my Junior year. I am somehow going to manage to go through four years of college and not be in debt when I graduate.
I was a (co-)recipient of the 1997 Bell Prize for research in mathematics at Caltech.
I will start my senior year in September. Here is my schedule for fall quarter:
Applied Math 201a (Methods in Applied Mathematics II)
Math 110a (Real and Complex Analysis)
Control and Dynamical Systems 140 (Introduction to Nonlinear Dynamics)
Biology 122 (Genetics)
Economics and Political Science 160a (Laboratory Methods in the Social Sciences)
Performance and Activities 15a (i.e. the newspaper yet again!)
Adv Table Tennis (I don't remember the numbering; yet again!)
I had a SURF (research) project last summer. It was entitled, "Cross Cultural Efforts Between Mathematics and Engineering." Dr. Jerrold Marsden of Caltech's CDS department advised me on that project. It involved, among other things, the application of the Hopf fibration in rigid body rotation. I really screwed up on the oral presentation. The computer crashed, so I had to impromptu for fifteen minutes.
I also had a SURF during the summer of 1997. My project was entitled, "Diffusion Limited Aggregation: A Study in Unstable Equilibrium." My advisor was Dr. Makarov of the mathematics department.
I am participating in Caltech's back to school program for the third year in a row.
I wish to TA a class next year, but I still don't know if I am going to do so yet.
I am one of the editors of this year's Totem (Caltech's creative writing annual). I am one of next year's ('97-'98) editors as well.
I'm (still!) trying to piece together the Rotisserie League I had from 1991 to 1994. Baseball rules, but I'm not particularly fond of the MLBPA and most of the owners!
Maybe you want to return to the entrance to my world.
