Butter Frosting (variations)
1/3 c butter or margarine
4 1/2 c powdered sugar - sifted
1/4 c milk
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
- In a large bowl beat butter
- Gradually add 2c powdered sugar beating well
- Slowly beat in 1/4c milk and vanilla
- Gradually add remaining sugar beating until combined
- If necessary add milk until desired consistency
Chocolate Butter
Reduce powdered sugar to 4c and add 1/2c unsweetened cocoa to first 2c
Peanut Butter Crunch
Substitute peanut butter for butter. Sprinkle chopped candy-coated peanut butter pieces or chopped peanuts over frosting
Mocha Cocoa
Reduce powdered sugar to 4c and add 1/2c unsweetened cocoa powder. Add 1 Tbs instant coffee crystals to 1/4c milk - let stand 3min and then stir until dissolved
Maraschino Cherry
Substitute 3 Tbs cherry juice for milk. Add 1/3 c maraschino cherries at the end
Vanilla Polka Dot
Stir 2-3 Tbs candy sprinkles before using
Double Orange
Substitute OJ for milk. Add 1 tsp finely shredded orange peel after all sugar is added
Mini-Mint Chip
Add 1/4 tsp mint extract and a few drops green food coloring with milk. Stir in 1/3c mini semisweet chocolate pieces
