This page is about a MIME encoded format
called Illustrated
Audio. It allows you to send slide shows with sound via the
Web! Right now, it is only available on Unix with
Xwindows, though the developers are looking for people to do
ports to the Mac and IBM. People with
Linux and Xwindows should be able to compile the
source code with little difficulty.
Here is a test file (57.3 Kb) to see if you already have it installed at your site. You should see an image of a logo appear, along with another window showing text, and the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) station identification music in the background.
IA was developed by researchers at CRC. They're cool people who helped me a lot in installing this at my site. Unfortunately, their server is a bit slow, so you might want to get the latest version (0.3) of their compressed source code from me. You can get either the the GNUzip version (84.5 Kb) or the *.Z compressed version (117.9 Kb). Note: bigger does not mean better, in this case.
If you've got it installed already, here are: some cool Illustrated Audio files I made using sound and images from Japanese anime.
