Feb 17, 2009: To Transfer, or Not To Transfer?

After a not-so-fun first few weeks, I have dropped from 36 to 21 units. This means that graduation is pushed back yet again; in fact, I'm not sure I'll ever graduate. Sigh. On a related note, I'm trying to transfer for next fall. I've applied to (and been accepted by) Rocky Mountain College in Billings, MT. I'm still waiting to hear from Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA. I would really really really like to go to Humboldt. And, Tom has applied there for a masters in ERE. (Oh yeah, I'm applying for a BA in art.) So... yeah. Exciting. Hopefully I find out soon, before the anticipation wears me out.

Dec 19, 2008: Classes at Oxy?

As the 2nd term quickly approaches, I find myself wondering what classes to take. As an English major at Caltech, there aren't many options. Unfortunately for me, scheduling of humanities classes at Caltech is based on times when such classes don't interfere with science classes - meaning they all get offered in a few time blocks. I have been encouraged by a number of people to take classes at Occidental through an exchange program Caltech offers with them... only in practice it is much more difficult that it initially seems. First, there's the problem of getting to Oxy. Which means a good half hour busride and then a bit of a walk each way. Ok, well, not too bad. Then, there's the problem of finding classes that are offered at times when the bus is running - so that I have a way to get back. Ok, not so hard. Then, there is the problem of finding classes that don't conflict with the few classes I want to take at Caltech. Often, they are offered at the same times. Once that is done, there remains the problem of getting a seat in the desired classes. I was hoping for an art class - since it looks like all of those currently have more students signed up than there are available seats... that will be unlikely. Ok, so I'll take an English. That's not so bad, it looks like it fits my schedule, there are a very few seats left.. only I can't sign up until January 20th. And add day at Caltech is January 23rd. Which means that by the time I find out if I like the class, or if I can even be in the class... it's almost too late to add anything at Caltech. And it's really hard to add things that late into the term. I'd be missing the first third of whatever class I added. So. Suddenly, classes at Oxy don't sound like such a great idea. Blah. Now I see why no one ever takes advantage of the wonderful opportunities the exchange program provides.

Oct 15, 2008: Medical leave of absence

So, after 2 weeks of classes & homeworks, I have decided that I am completely overwhelmed this term, and there is no way I could possibly continue. So, the Deans and the Health Center have kindly granted me a medical leave of absence for the term, to take care of various medical issues and be able to return in January for winter term... healthy (hopefully) and *much* less stressed. Hooray.

Sept 29, 2008: Aaaaaahhhhhhhh!!! First Day of School!!!!!

Summer is over! Where did it go??? And why is it still 99 degrees every day???!!!!

Sept 17, 2008: Work at the Caltech Y!!!

Yet another summer is coming to an end... which means that I have to stop working and go back to classes and studying. And, of course, it also means that the Caltech Y desperately needs student workers. So...

If you are a Caltech undergrad, and have federal work study money for the 2008-09 school year, and want to work at an AWESOME job... get in touch with the Caltech Y.

Phone: (626) 395-6163 (or, from on campus, simply extension 6163)

Email: caltechy@caltech.edu

Drop by: building 62 on the Caltech campus, office hours 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, closed for lunch from 12-1 during the summer.

So....yeah. Work at the Y. It's awesome.

Sept 17, 2008: New Website!!!

As you've probably noticed, I now have a website. w00t. So, I will probably occasionally post interesting (to me anyway) things here. Sporadically. (Especially once school starts). I believe I will start with a list of things I would like to acquire (no particular reason, just seems like a good idea):
