Unfortunately, Liberty Cap is not the summit! Columbia Crest, the snowy bump on the large hill in the center of the photo, is the true summit (14,400'+). From our spot at 14,100', we had to drop to about 13,600' (the saddle, in the left of the picture) and climb 800' back up. We didn't have much left by then. To get a sense of the large scale of this photo, you can see a pair of climbers far in the distance on the right side of the snowfield, at about the level of the saddle. | 5/24/09 2:32 PM
