Greg's Pictures
Comments in black by Albert, comments in blue by Greg

I tried to organize the photos more or less thematically, because they were completely out of order when I dug them out of my closet. The first group is pictures of the buildings where we spent so much time during the summer of 1995. This is a picture of the telescope dome where we took all our plates. I can hear WWV just looking at this photo.
I only vaguely remember what WWV sounds like, though I suppose that I remember the beeping, and that's pretty much the whole thing.

Next, we have the boys' dorms, Matilija. Not much to say here, except that it was a good supplier of insects, arachnids and amphibians that could be put in Sespe, the girl's dorm.
Ah! So that's how the huge spiders got into Sespe! =P

Then we have a photo of the science building, where we did all our work and horseplay. Next to the science building was this very nice courtyard. I'm not sure why I liked it so much, but it seemed like I often went out of my way to walk through here.
I agree with Greg on there being something about the courtyard. Hardly a day at SSP would go by without my taking a "timeout" to hop back and forth among the rocks, lay on the benches, or gaze at the pseudo-stream. Unfortunately, they apparently don't chlorinate the water, because when I saw the stream this year, the rocks were smothered in green algae...

Now on to the group pictures. First off we have the sexiest SSP '95 team, Le, Albert, and myself, otherwise known as Team 5. This picture was taken after the graduation ceremony.
Yes. Sexy. =)

Next is Stas, Paul, Henry and Albert looking sharp at graduation. Last of the group pictures is Team 6, Camy, Tania, and Stas, right after they won the award for "Bumpiest Team."
And a few more graduation pictures...

This set of pictures I took on one of our hikes behind Thacher. This is the Ojai Valley, looking toward Ventura and the Pacific Ocean.
I was actually on this hike (I think I posted a picture or two of my own from there). Of course, I hadn't planned on actually hiking when I woke up, but I guess I felt I might as well tag along since it was so rare for me to actually wake up in the morning on a Sunday. =P

Next we have a very special picture. According to my father, who is a trained biologist and avid birder, this is a California Condor. Right now there are less than 100 in the hills and mountains of California, and even fewer during the summer of 1995. These birds were saved through a captive breeding program that continues to this day. I can't remember if anyone on the hike knew what we saw. I'm curious to hear from anyone on that hike what they remember about it.
Nope, I don't recall anything about the bird being a condor. I do remember that we watched it fly around for a while. I took the liberty of zooming in on the bird, which is the accompanying picture.

Here's the group of hardy trekkers, Dr. Stephens, Gary (TA), Marie, Zahra, Riki, and Albert.
Go Albert! =)

This picture gives a good view of what it was like to lecture to all of us for day after day. Even though I got the nickname "sleepius earlius," I felt like this quite often.
Yet another take...

This picture is from our remote observing session with a telescope on Mt. Wilson. Dr. Stephens is manning the phone on the right, trying to make it go. Here, we have a picture inside the solar observatory at Mt. Wilson, with Mary Ellen in the background.
Nothing to add here...

These next two pictures are from the talent show. Mary Ellen did an excellent job dancing. As an added bonus, we get the back of Jason's head and someone's chrome dome. Then we have John, George, Ringo and Paul talking about their new song over breakfast, "Scrambled Eggs." We know it better today as "Yesterday."
I wonder whether other classes had talent shows?

This picture is of my roommate Gary and me, after the graduation ceremony, in the dining hall. Last of the SSP pictures is me with TA Gary, again after graduation.
Too many Garys! Run! =P

I also included two more up-to-date pictures of myself. This picture was taken on the Beaverhead River where my dad and I flyfished with a guide (holding the 18" Brown trout), during the summer of 1999. Lastly, here's the most recent picture of me, taken just after Christmas 1999. My sister is on the far right, seated. The rest of the gang are my first cousins from my mom's side of the family. In case you're wondering, I'm almost 6'2" now.

There it is. I'd love to hear from all of you. My email is gsmaskel@aol.com.
