Why do I always end up writing these rants after depriving myself of sleep? Midterms here at Caltech are finally over, even though I ended up staying up until six to finish three essays for my history class. At least that's done with now. Here are the pictures I promised before, most of which come from the Jason collection. To the right are two more pictures of the courtyard and associated buildings.
Here are more scenery shots, with the Elder Hostel (the place with those free cookies) and the Study Hall to the left, and with the Science Building and the library to the right. It's so odd to actually see these buildings in good light; I always remember them fondly when going on my rounds...
Wow, field trip time! the picture on the left is from our visit to JPL, and we believe is something related to Cassini. To the right is a nice shot of most of us on the bus, assumably during the same trip seeing as how everyone is sleeping oh so contently. And to the far right, we're all gathered about a dome with a telescope, but I have since forgotten the particulars of this trip.
Okay, here are more of Jason's pictures, oddly enough with Jason in them. Maybe those aliens that abducted him at SSP also possessed his camera? Okay, my head hurts. Anyway, here is another take of the twenty-eight of us sleeping in the lecture hall, and Jason does look better in this one, but one should remember that we're supposedly to be sleeping. To the right is a picture of the Study Hall, with a group of us congregating around a guest lecturer (Martin Schimdt?).
And more pictures! Here is that horrid Venice puzzle which we attempted to complete after a virtually successful completion of the earlier puzzle with fish in the ocean. Unfortunately, Jeffrey (supposedly) did not want girls to help, and therefore no one ever had the patience to complete the sky. To the right is the second team picture I have, though there seems to be an inexplicable problem with my team picture... =)
Now for the rest of Jason's pictures. To the left is the Dr. Davis, Dr. Stephens, Dr. Connolly, and Dr. Connolly's wife. To the near left is a picture of the measuring engine, though I swear it wasn't that white. Jason claims that his flash was just simply too bright. Unfortunately, my picture of the measuring engine is partially exposed thanks to a loose camera back, so I seriously doubt that the engine and accompanying room was really streaked with flame when I took the picture. And to the right is a nice picture of the water fight which the TAs had to drag us into, though we (mostly) gladly participated. Does anyone know who took that picture in our scrap book of the water fight?
And now for two more pictures that I brought back with me the last time I returned home, both taken at the 1997 Alumni Weekend. The left one captures the wiseness of the omniscient PCs: "SSP 95 rules!" Hey Henry, get your hand out of my box of Cheerios! And the picture on the right is of our inspiring Caltech-alum TA, Leslie Lee.
