QOD #13
After having retired as the Academic Director of the Summer Science Program, Dr. Leo Connolly was invited to become the host of a new game show called "Find My Dog And We'll Make A Deal!" As his first celebrity guest, Dr. Connolly invited Dr. Eric Davis as a contestant.
Here's how the show works. Dr. Connolly's dog Suzi is hidden behind one of three closed doors, each numbered 1 through 3 respectively. Dr. Davis is asked to choose which door he thinks Suzi is behind. It remains closed. Dr. Connolly then opens one of the other two doors that was not chosen and reveals that Suzi isn't behind it. He then asks Dr. Davis whether or not he wishes to change his mind and choose the other door. For example, Dr. Davis guesses that Suzi is behind door #2. Dr. Connolly then opens door #1 and Suzi isn't there. Should Dr. Davis switch to door #3 or stay with door #2? If Dr. Davis guesses the right door, he wins a free trip to Wago Wago, which, in his generosity, he has promised to give to the TA's so that they can get away from a certain group of 28 students.
Assuming that Dr. Connolly was able to ban all tennis balls from being within a 100 yard radius of the show and that there is no underhanded way in which to make Suzi bark and howl, should Dr. Davis switch doors, or does it matter?
