Hilarious post on the Shanghai Expat community weblog today:
Outraged, the lady went on and on about how foreigners cant read the signs and did not know about the 24 hour requirement (up to 72 is usually allowed actually) and that he had no time and just could not be bothered, blah blah blah. She did it in typical Shanghainese argumenitive style, full on agressive stance against the lady police officer who calmly said to her that ignorance and being busy was not an excuse.

Skype, the fast-growing internet communications company that belongs to Ebay, has admitted that its partner in China has filtered text messages, defending this compliance with censorship laws as the only way to do business in the country.
There's something wrong with your business model when it's based on "doing A was the only way we could do B". I can think of some pretty nasty stuff to sub in for A and B.

This one photo on Flickr is a picture of a Japanese oden, but it sure looks a lot like Shanghainese 广东煮, "Cantonese Boil". It turns out, this has long been a known connection.
