About Me

Many people expect me to have a middle name. Tell you the truth, what you see at the upper right corner is what you get. Tao Long is my full legal name. I know what you are thinking right now, but hold on and here comes Quiz #1. How would you pronounce Tao? I've found so many people tried hard to pronounce my name weird ways although they probably weren't intentional. (How weird can it be? Like Tay-Oh?) Anyways, it has the same pronunciation as the Greek letter Tau, and means wave in Chinese. My last name in Chinese means dragon. So putting things together, you get Dragon Wave. By the way, in Chinese last name goes first. I think my name is neat, but all credits should go to my parents who still live in Beijing, China.

I lived in Beijing with my parents until the end of high school. Then I spent the following four years at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA. (Doesn't that name sound familiar? How about Rose Bowl?) Going to Caltech can be quite an experience because there you can find a lot of intriguing people, and you need to frequently refresh yourself with the outside world. Otherwise, you will be either assimilated or highly depressed.

Honestly, everyone at Caltech is very nice and I've never regretted for my choice of going to that school. Plus, from time to time you have the opportunity to see some popular movie shooting activities on campus. That's really exciting. In a greater sense, entertainment is always not an issue there as long as you want to participate.

Now I've given up all those great things of California and moved to Urbana-Champaign, Illinois to get my M.S. degree. It's COOOLD here, and this year it SNOOOWED like crazy. But still I've found some amazing aspects at this place, e.g., DVD rentals. This place is about two hours drive from Chicago, but I definitely like LA better.

As you know, "life is like a box of chocolates," and "you never know what you're gonna get." Maybe this explains why I suddenly crossed the Pacific Ocean right after my high school and now I am in the Midwest. Maybe this explains why I didn't even bother putting up anything on the web for the past five years but now I do. What remains unchanged is that I am always that happy fellow, and a trustworthy friend you know.
