T O T E M

a world on fire
encompasses the night sky
rent by black veins tracing
the edge of an exploding kaleidoscope
of melting cathedrals blossoming

a flickering pulse from glowing marrow
signals urgent life subsisting upon itself;
its withered sprout tarnished,
surrounded by a waxing crater
of moonlight

a mottled apple rainbow
cascades, searing the webs
between my fingers
enfolding upon itself, cooling
this stiffened lump rests
in my fists
perched upon its pedestal of glass
