T O T E M

They held the sun in a bottle
And the bottle broke today.
Like milk so pure and white
So bright,
It washed the world away.
It dribbled across the continents
It leaked out into the seas.
It cleaned out the sky
And I closed my eyes
To the gentle nuclear breeze.
So down I now look
On a brand new world
From my perch so high above.
And I think of the olive
Once brought from afar
By a single wandering dove.
