Materials

Acoustic Guitar - Materials:

  • soundboard:  Sitka spruce
  • back/sides:  East Indian rosewood  (sides = pre-bent, dreadnought shape)
  • neck:  Madagascar rosewood
  • fretboard:  ebony
  • fretting wire:  4’ spool
  • bridge blank:  ebony
  • headplate:  ebony
  • brace wood:  Sitka spruce, 2 blocks 24”x2”x2”
  • kerfing:  spruce
  • end block:  mahogany (only because spruce wasn’t in stock)
  • rosette:  simple herringbone pattern
  • binding:  black plastic (2 of Bolteron 1/16”x ¼”x 71”)
  • inlay material:  Paua abalone shell dots, 4 each 4.72mm, 6mm
  • bone nut blank
  • bone compensated saddle blank
  • bridge pins:  black with abalone shell dots
  • tuning machines:  Gotoh chrome
  • truss rod
  • pickguard (clear)
  • glue:  instrument glue (LMI)

I ordered all materials (with the exception of the rosewood neck) from Luthiers Mercantile International.  I bought the neck separately with the intention of trying to match the sides and back.  LMI didn’t have rosewood, so I picked some up at a local exotic hardwood supply (Eisenbrand Exotic Hardwoods, in Torrance, CA).
