"The Effect of Food Choices on the Environment"
Dr. Michael Greger offers a memorable and lively look at the devastating
effects of the livestock industry on the environment. Complete with
outrageous props, this humorous presentation incorporates theatrical
elements to illustrate the effect of food choices on the environment
and shows how we can make every day Earth day.
The Caltech Vegetarian Club and the Caltech Environmental Task Force, along with our friends at ASCIT and the Caltech Y, hosted a talk by Howard Lyman on Wednesday, January 26, at noon in Winnett Center. This talk is part of Caltech's Wellness Week program.
A former fourth-generation cattle rancher from Montana, Howard now advocates an organic, plant-based diet. Howard Lyman is the president of EarthSave International and the founder of Voice for a Viable Future. He was a co-defendant with Oprah Winfrey in the libel case brought on by Texas cattlemen after his statements on Oprah's television show regarding food safety in America. He is the author of Mad Cowboy: Plain Truth from the Cattle Rancher Who Won't Eat Meat.
More information about Howard and his background is available at these web sites:The American Dietetic Association states that there are many health-related benefits of a vegetarian diet.
The Caltech Vegetarian Club aims to provide a supportive atmosphere for vegetarians at Caltech and to promote the vegetarian diet. The club is open to anyone who's interested in vegetarianism; being a vegetarian is not a requirement for joining.
