Hello

I'm Jaap Weel. I'm a PhD student in Economics at George Mason University. Before that, I used to be a student at University College Utrecht, the University of California at Berkeley, the California Institute of Technology, and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

My name

My given names are fully Jacob Johannes, after my late grandfather, but the customary short form of Jacob in Dutch is Jaap, pronounced Yahp. My last name is Weel, pronounced more or less as Vale, rhymes with whale. It is not Ter Weel, Verweel, or Van Weel. (Wheareas the Van Weels are patrician, us Weels are Free Frisian yeomen and proudly so, for we require no 75 overpriced copies of Nederland's Patriciaat to inflate our egos ;-) )
